Thames Water tenders £200+ million leakage detection services contract

Thames Water has gone out to tender with a major contract for leak detection and testing services worth an estimated £203 million in total.

Leaking water pipeLeak detection is a high profile category for Thames Water - it includes the proactive detection of non-visible leaks, specialised consulting and additional projects related to leakage detection.

Activities related to the detection of leakage are performed across three regions: North London, South London and Thames Valley. The water company is now looking to implement a step change in current performance to make sure it meets its leakage target and commitments.

The contract is being tendered in four separate Lots – with a maximum number of four lots awarded to any one tenderer

Lot 1 Leakage Detection Services — North London (£91 million)

Lot 2 Leakage Detection Services — South London (£48 million)

Lot 3 Leakage Detection Services — Thames Valley (£24 million)

Lot 4 Leakage Detection Projects (£40 million)

Activities covered under Lots 1, 2 and 3 include:

Recurrence leakage activity:

  • open sounding
  • lift and shift logging
  • permanent noise logger follow up
  • step testing
  • leak noise correlating
  • customer Side Leakage proving

 

Reduction leakage activity:

  • further leakage checks
  • stopper meter investigations
  • missing/unmeasured property checks
  • property coding
  • property allocation errors

 

Operability activity including:

  • Pressure Zero Testing
  • boundary valve proving
  • flush testing a DMA
  • flow testing a District Meter
  • commercial night use investigations

Leakage detection projects under Lot 4 will cover all leakage detection activities for a DMA, as per Lot 1, 2 and 3 where extra intervention, on a project or campaign basis, is required to meet a specific leakage target in a DMA.

Thames Water is looking to appoint up to 9 suppliers to the framework agreement, which will run for a maximum term of 8 years.
